Salisbury Steak

Salisbury Steak is one of those things you don’t always think about making, but it sure is a great change from the usual! A total comfort food in so many ways! Tonight as I was making this dish for my family, I thought about the things like Campbell’s Soup that make our lives so much easier as everyday cooks!

As I finished cooking the Salisbury Steak, I realized it really doesn’t photograph well!!

The term Salisbury steak was first recorded in 1897 but really came into full usage during World War I when patriotic Americans wanted a substitute for the German word hamburger.
To make this Salisbury Steak recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French
onion soup
2 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of
mushroom soup
1 packet onion soup mix
1 1/2 pounds ground sirloin
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
In a large bowl, add 1/3 can of french onion soup,
1 packet onion soup mix,
1/2 cup bread crumbs,
1/8 tsp black pepper,
1 egg,
and the ground sirloin.
Mix with hands like you would a meatloaf and form into 5-6 ovals.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties.
For the Gravy:
In a bowl, combine 1 tablespoon flour,
the rest of the french onion soup,
2 cans cream of mushroom soup,
1/2 cup water,
1/4 cup ketchup,
2 tbs Worcestershire,
and 1/2 tsp ground mustard.
Mix well.

Pour over meat in skillet. Cover, and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve with mashed potatoes and vegetables!
Enjoy!!
